Black Genesis Scholarship Essay Contest
Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is the first intercollegiate Greek-letter fraternity established for African Americans and was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Our fraternity seeks to serve our world community through “Manly Deeds, Scholarship, and Love for All Mankind”. Notable members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. include Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Justice Thurgood Marshall, Duke Ellington, and Ambassador Andrew Young. On Sunday, May 22nd, 1977 on the campus of American University in Washington D.C., the Nu Beta Chapter was chartered by fifteen intelligent Black men we refer to as Black Genesis. Each spring, the Nu Beta Chapter honors our chartering members by awarding two deserving Washington D.C. Public High School Seniors a $500 scholarship aimed at supplementing the cost of attending a four year college or university. We are proud to extend to you the opportunity to receive the Black Genesis Scholarship.
